Bell's first telephone patent was issued on March 7, 1876. Three days later, in Boston, the telephone carried its first intelligible sentence.

This invention, of course, is the telephone. Bell's first phone worked very much like his phonoautograph, with a few technical improvements.

Bell was able to take these everyday household items and turn them into the first telephone. Needles, water, cups, wire...how did this stuff transmit sound?
